Frequently Asked Questions
💡 Basics
▶ Is it free to use?
Yes! Pixel Fine Converter can be installed for free from the Figma Community. The Free plan includes all of the basic conversions — shapes, text, styles, effects, masks, images, and more. There are limits of 3 artboards and a 30 MB file size.
▶ Are my design files sent anywhere?
No, never. All conversion happens locally on your machine. Network access is disabled at the Figma platform level — this is a technical guarantee, not just a promise.
▶ Do I need Adobe XD installed?
No. Pixel Fine Converter parses .xd files directly, so you don't need Adobe XD installed.
▶ Where can I get a .xd file?
In Adobe XD, use "File > Save As" to save a .xd file locally. For cloud documents, use the "Save a copy locally" option.
▶ What environments are supported?
It works with both the Figma desktop app (Windows / macOS) and the browser version (figma.com).
🎯 Conversion accuracy
▶ How faithful is the conversion?
Shapes, text (font, color, size, line height), gradients, effects (drop shadow, blur, etc.), masks, images, and group structure are all reproduced as native Figma nodes. Pro additionally converts Auto Layout, Components, and Prototype interactions.
▶ Can fonts change after conversion?
Pixel Fine Converter carries over the font specified in XD as-is. However, if that font isn't installed in your Figma environment, Figma will show it as a "Missing font." The plugin does not convert or substitute fonts on its own.
▶ Are there elements that can't be converted?
Elements with no equivalent concept in Figma's API — such as XD 3D transforms, embedded video, and certain plugin-specific effects — are out of scope. Additionally, rendering differences between XD and Figma can cause a few pixels of drift in text position or gradient angles. Pro's Fine-tuning features can reduce these differences.
▶ Is conversion quality different between Free and Pro?
Basic conversion (shapes, text, styles, etc.) quality is identical. Pro adds structural features like Auto Layout, Components, and Prototype interactions — it does not degrade the Free-tier conversion in any way.
▶ How much manual cleanup is typical after conversion?
For most files, post-conversion cleanup is minimal — verifying fonts, checking gradient angles, and reviewing prototype connections. Files heavy in Auto Layout or stateful components benefit most from Pro conversion, where structural fidelity reduces the amount of manual rework needed.
⭐ Pro plan
▶ Is Pro a one-time purchase? Are there subscriptions?
$29, one-time purchase. No monthly or annual fees, no per-file charges. Pay once, use every Pro feature without limit.
▶ Can I try Pro features before buying?
You can verify the basic conversion quality on the Free plan. The Features pages cover the Pro features (Auto Layout, Components, etc.) in detail.
▶ What about refunds?
Payment is processed through Figma Payments. For refund policy, please contact Figma support.
▶ Can I use Pro on multiple machines or accounts?
Pro entitlement is tied to your Figma user account, not the machine. You can install and use Pro on as many devices as you want under the same Figma account. For team-wide use across different Figma accounts, each user needs their own Pro purchase.
🔧 Troubleshooting
▶ Text is clipped after conversion
Because XD and Figma use different font metrics, text inside clipping frames can overflow by a few pixels. Turn on Pro's "Expand clip frames to fit text" option, and the frame will automatically extend by just the overflow amount.
▶ Hover interactions don't work in the desktop app
Right after opening a file, interactions may not run until font loading finishes. Wait a bit and try the preview again. The browser version (figma.com) preview also works for verification.
▶ Conversion seems to stall partway through
Large files (many artboards, lots of components) can take a while to convert. As long as the progress bar is moving, please let it finish. You can also cancel with the Cancel button.
▶ How long does conversion take?
It depends on file size and complexity, but typical files complete in a few seconds to under a minute. Even large files with Components and Auto Layout usually finish within a few minutes.
▶ What if Figma shows "Missing font" after conversion?
This means the font specified in your XD file isn't installed in your Figma environment. Pixel Fine Converter doesn't substitute fonts — you'll need to install the font locally (for the Figma desktop app) or use a Figma-supported font equivalent. The font-not-showing blog has detailed resolution steps.
🔄 Migration process
▶ Can I batch-convert multiple .xd files at once?
Pixel Fine Converter processes one .xd file per conversion. For multiple files, you'd run the plugin separately on each. This is by design — interactive conversion lets you verify each file's output before moving on.
▶ Can I select specific artboards to convert?
There's no artboard-selection UI in the plugin itself. The Free plan automatically converts the first 3 artboards, and the Pro plan converts all artboards in the file. If you want to keep only specific artboards, the simplest way is to convert the file and delete the unneeded artboards in Figma afterward.
▶ How should I handle very large XD files?
The Free plan caps conversion at a 30 MB file size and 3 artboards per run. The Pro plan scales these to 300 MB and no artboard cap (not unlimited file size — there's still a 300 MB ceiling). For files significantly larger than typical (e.g., 100+ artboards), splitting into multiple .xd files before conversion can reduce memory pressure and make it easier to review each output independently.
▶ How do I migrate a file with a Component Library?
XD symbols / components are converted to Figma local components by default. Separately, XD Document Library styles (colors / text styles) can be imported as Figma local styles by enabling the Import document colors & text styles option. For team-wide library use, see Bringing XD Design Systems into Figma Libraries for the post-conversion publishing flow.
▶ The conversion result looks different from what I expected — what should I check?
Common checkpoints: (1) verify Pro features are enabled for Auto Layout / Components / Prototype conversion, (2) check the conversion notes (if you enabled "Generate conversion notes" — a Pro-only option) for skipped items, (3) verify fonts are installed in Figma. The troubleshooting blog series covers most common cases.
🛠️ Support
▶ How do I report a bug?
Bug reports are welcome via the contact email. Please include the XD file (if shareable), Figma environment (desktop / browser, OS), and a description of the expected vs actual behavior. We respond to all reports within a few business days.
▶ How can I request a new feature?
Feature requests go through the same contact email. We prioritize requests based on impact, frequency, and alignment with the migration use case. Past user feedback has driven features like Auto Layout inference and Japanese font precision correction.
▶ How do I request a font for baseline correction?
Send a request via contact email with the font name and, if possible, 42-cell measurement data (Regular / Bold × 7 sizes × 3 lineHeights) measured in both XD and Figma. We'll evaluate adding it to the per-font correction registry. See Features: Japanese fonts for the registry details.
